  • Overview

    This position will provide GIS technical support for the various service areas within the Company under the direction of the GIS Manager.

    Responsibilities

    The GIS Intern will work with GIS Analysts and Managers to support firm wide data delivery initiatives.  These will include:

     

    • Produce mapping projects for internal and external uses
    • Perform basic analysis on spatial and tabular data
    • Digitizing of maps utilizing FIS
    • Conduct GPS data collection and coordination
    • Prepare a variety of GIS projects for internal and external customers
    • Organize, maintain and archive computer files, drawings, and maps
    • Compile information for requests for GIS data
    • Work with web-based mapping applications
    • Perform related duties as required to support the GIS team

    Qualifications

    • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science or Arts degree in Geography, Geographic Information Science, Urban Planning or related field; will consider a new graduate. 
    • At least one year of school-related experience preferred using ERSI’s ArcGIS suite of software
    • Advanced geospatial principles and practices of mapping, coordinate systems, projections and scales
    • Clearly, efficiently, and concisely communicate with all levels of employees within organization
    • Must be dependable and reliable
    • Must be able to adapt to new techniques and procedures quickly and integrate into daily job functions

    • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and aerial/orthophotography
    • Ability to implement GIS project parameters
    • Ability to produce maps and other representations of spatial data
