Overview

This position is responsible for providing technical support across a range of utility-related projects. This role involves applying engineering expertise to develop and execute design plans, perform detailed analyses, and ensure the successful completion of project tasks. The Project Engineer works closely with the Project Manager to conceptualize initial designs, maintain project schedules, and oversee technical aspects of the work. 

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to develop initial design ideas for utility projects, ensuring alignment with project goals and client expectations.
  • Use engineering knowledge to create utility base maps identify and resolve potential issues with existing utilities, design plans for relocating utilities, and manage the approval process for these designs.
  • Manage and oversee several smaller projects, making sure they are completed on time, within budget, and meet the necessary standards.
  • Supervise the work of junior team members, checking to ensure their work meets the required quality and project guidelines.
  • Routinely interact with utility owners, maintaining good relationships and ensuring clear communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain project design schedules as assigned, ensuring timely completion of all project milestones.
  • Develop and implement innovative design techniques, support tools, and project delivery methods to improve efficiency and project outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of Texas.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in utility engineering, including the creation of utility base maps, conflict analysis, and relocation design.
  • Proficient in MicroStation, GeoPak, MS Office Suite, and scheduling software.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and practices related to utility engineering.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to supervise, mentor, and technically develop members of the project team.
  • A self-starter capable of completing tasks with minimal oversight.
  • High level of accuracy in work product, ensuring precision and adherence to project specifications.
  • Ability to maintain and develop strong relationships with utility owners and other stakeholders.
  • Must be able to work from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, with overtime as needed to meet project deadlines.
