Overview

The Director of Project Accounting will be responsible for designing, implementing, and enforcing policies and procedures for the company's billing and revenue cycle to maximize cash flow while maintaining and improving internal and external customer relations. Additionally, this position requires a strong hands-on leader with the ability to see the big picture as well as dive into the details when needed. The Director of Project Accounting will manage the billing function as well as evaluate project performance and provide analysis to project directors, finance department, and other operational management groups.  The Director of Project Accounting will report to the Controller.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the project finance and accounting for all engineering projects
  • Lead a Project Accounting team responsible for all aspects of project accounting, including project set-up, project budgeting, billing, cost control, and analysis
  • Partner with project Directors and project controls personnel on project performance, key metrics and reporting
  • Drive project control framework, process improvements and standardization to ensure accurate data
  • Develop and manage unit cost standards for materials and labor to ensure company cost recovery is maximized
  • Establish project Estimated at Completion forecast for revenue, cost, and income
  • Provide support as needed for annual audits and tax filings
  • Perform other related duties and work on special projects as requested by management

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required
  • 7+ years’ progressive experience in Project or Cost Accounting with comprehensive knowledge of contracts, percentage of completion and revenue recognition principles
  • 5+ years experience of demonstrated people leadership ability
  • Proficient in database and accounting systems; Experience using Deltek Vision / Vantagepoint preferred.
  • Experience using Microsoft (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Detail-oriented; strong organizational skills with focus on accuracy; ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Analytical Mindset with ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Team Player; Collaborate with Project Directors and other internal customers
  • Proficient with various Microsoft applications and Internet based applications; strong use of Excel and spreadsheet tools
  • Ability to develop and mentor a team; shares information, creates a safe and inclusive environment, and recognizes success
  • Strong technical and analytical capacity
  • Comprehensive understanding of project and revenue management concepts including earned value and estimated cost to complete
  • Process improvement mindset
  • Ability to toggle between big picture and detail oriented activities
  • Problem solving skills
